Fieldwork for the research project on climate change

In the summer of 2020, our collaborator Conrad André installed 10 thermographs within an 18 km radius of Matimekush – Lac John.

These small devices, no more than 5 cm in size, have been soaking in the rivers of Northern Quebec and recording the water temperature for one year.

In the summer of 2021, PhD candidate Eisinhower Rincon and Conrad André went to retrieve them. They downloaded the temperature data from each thermograph. After making sure the thermographs were still functional, they put them back in the water to continue recording stream temperatures for another year.

The Kativik Regional Government team also participated in the installation of thermographs in the greater Nunavik territory. We thank them for participating in the acquisition of this essential data which will be part of a hydro-meteo-thermal database and which will help characterize the territory.
